Date Posted: Apr 23, 2010

Score:
RAILROADERS: 14
SMITHSBURG SR. HIGH: 9

Thursday the 'Roaders hosted the Smithsburg Leopards for the rematch of a 17-14 win when Brunswick traveled to Smithsburg a few weeks ago. With familiarity of the opponent, the game started slow with both offenses trying to feel their way through the different looks the defenses were throwing their way. In the second quarter, Brunswick's offense got hot and took a commanding 8-3 lead into halftime. Similar to the last time these two teams squared off, the Leopards came storming back and made it close heading into the final stanza with a score of 10-7 in favor of Brunswick. In the 4th, Brunswick proved to be too much for Smithsburg as they tallied another 4 goals to make the final score 14-9 and moving Brunswick's overall record to 8-2 on the season (5-1 Antietam Conference).

Coach Hartman's Thoughts on the Smithsburg Game:
"Our schedule is set up so that we play everyone in our conference twice, and we've even played one opponent outside of our conference twice as well. The second time you play a team you can never prepare for what is going to happen as they will know who your shooter are, your offensive sets, etc. It takes alot of adjustments in the 1st quarter to make sure your team is prepared for the remainder of the game. The team did a fantastic job of adjusting to the zone defense they threw at us. I give all the credit to the players. We out hustled them, won the face off battle, and even won the groundball battle. You do that, and more often than not you are going to win the game. We are carrying alot of momentum on our shoulders right now and are looking to carry that into next week where we hope to go 2-0 for our slate of games."

Next week's Schedule for BHS Varsity Lacrosse:

Tuesday 4/27 -- BHS @ North Hagerstown HS -- 6:30pm
Thursday 4/29 -- BHS vs. Catoctin -- 5:00pm -- SENIOR NIGHT
