BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE VS. NORTH HAGERSTOWN HS

Date Posted: Apr 28, 2010
Game Date: Apr 27, 2010

Score:
RAILROADERS: 8
NORTH HAGERSTOWN HIGH: 7

Tuesday night Brunswick's Varsity Boys lacrosse team traveled to Washington County to attempt the clean sweep on the Washington County teams. They were slated against the North Hagerstown Hubs, in a rematch of their first game where Brunswick defeated the Hubs 12-9. This game was even tighter than the first as both teams came prepared for the opponent. It was a defensive battle for the majority of the game, but the main story line in this game was Brunswick's inability to take advantage of opportunities that were presented to them. Time and time again the 'Roaders had great offensive looks on the crease and failed to cash in on those chances. However, with the offensive failures, for the first time this year, the defense pulled through and shut down the North Hagerstown offense. When all was said and done, Brunswick's tally with 4 minutes remaining in the game proved to be the game winner with a final score of 8-7 in favor of the Railroaders of Brunswick.

Goal Scorers for Brunswick @ North Hagerstown:

Sophomore Attackman Dylan Hunt -- 3 Goals / 1 Assist
Sophomore Attackman Tate Rolland -- 3 Goals / 0 Assist
Senior Midfielder Sean Anderson -- 1 Goal / 2 Assists
Senior Attackman Kevin Wilson -- 1 Goal / 1 Assist
Senior Midfielder Logan Sample -- 1 Assist

Freshman Goalie Anthony Malik and James McFadden combined for 24 Saves

Coach Hartman's Thoughts on the North Hagerstown Game:

"Some would say that this could be a trap game, but when it comes down to it, North Hagerstown is a good team. They play great fundamental lacrosse. They play hard, clear the ball well, and continue to improve each and every year. The players knew that this game wasn't going to be a cake walk, and it proved to be the truth. I was proud of the defense today...the offense didn't bail them out as usual and they stood their ground. That was a big motivational win for our defense. The offense just couldn't cash in on opportunities at all. We decided to "run and gun" this game, and it was successful but we lacked the finish of our shots. That creates a great problem in teh 4th quarter when your middies are starting to get tired. Nonetheless, the players played good enough to win, not necessarily up to our capabilities, but a win is a win. I've always gone by the slogan that good teams, even if they don't play their best, find ways to win. That is exactly what we did tonight."
