Game Date: May 15, 2010

Score:
RAILROADERS: 14
SMITHSBURG SR. HIGH: 8

Saturday morning, the Brunswick Railroaders hosted the Smithsburg Leopards for a Maryland State Regional Quarterfinal Matchup. This was the third time that Brunswick has faced off against their Antietam Conference foe. They won the first two meetings by the scores of 17-14, and 14-9. Brunswick's performances in those first two games were drastically different. The one common element in both was the fact that Brunswick had blown leads and allowed the Leopards to inch back into the game before being put away. This playoff game was different, Brunswick came out looking sluggish, but finally woke up in the second quarter and took a 7-4 lead into half. Although Smithsburg came out with 3 goals early in the third, Brunswick responded and bounced back to take a dominant lead and finish the game with a final score of 14-8. With the win, Brunswick moves onto the Regional Semifinal game where they will face the winner of the South Carroll and North Carroll Regional Quarterfinal game. Brunswick's overall record now advances to 12-3 and keeps setting a new record for BHS and most wins in a season.

Coach Hartman's Thoughts on Brunswick's Playoff Victory:
"This game was one that I was pretty hesitant about. It is very difficult to defeat a team 3 times in one season, and that was the challenge we had with this playoff game. Its like I told the players before the game, that there are no more secrets between these two teams...you just have to go out there and prove that you are the better team. With this win, we know that we will be playing on Monday and living to play another day. This team has fantastic potential and some of that has yet to be tapped into. I thoroughly think that the players will respond and we can come out and get another win as we move towards our ultimate goal of a state playoff run."
