BOYS VARSITY LACROSSE VS. SOUTH CARROLL SR. HS
Date Posted: May 18, 2010
Game Date: May 17, 2010
Score:
RAILROADERS: 12
SOUTH CARROLL SR. HIGH: 20
The 2010 BHS Boys Lacrosse Campaign was running on all cylinders after defeating Smithsburg Saturday to advance to the Regional Semifinals and improving their record to 12-3. That season was brought to a close on Monday night against the South Carroll Cavaliers on a cool wet night in Brunswick. The 'Roaders came out sluggish and were unable to stop the South Carroll attack as they stormed to a 13-4 lead at halftime. With Brunswick all but done, the team got themselves together and decided that the fight was worth it...and they did just that. They brought themselves back within 5 goals at one point in the second half and proceeded to put up 12 goals against the South Carroll defense. However, when all was said and done, it was too little, too late. The final score of the game was South Carroll 20, Brunswick 12. The Railroaders finished the season with a record breaking W/L total with a final record of 12-4. This was also the first time they played in the Regional Semifinals in over 5 years. Alot of accomplishments have been made, many strides have been taken in the right direction, but it wasn't enough to reach the ultimate goal of Brunswick High School's first ever Boys Lacrosse State Championship.

Coach Hartman's Outlook on South Carroll and 2010 Season:
"This game doesn't really show how this season has gone for us. We are a better team than we showed tonight...it truly just wasn't our night. South Carroll has a great team and there is a strong chance that they could be playing for the state title this year. Nonetheless, we didn't play our best game tonight. That happens throughout a season, but as a coach you hope it doesn't happen during the playoffs. With all that said, I must say that I am proud to be a part of this team, this community, and this High School. It isn't easy coaching one of the smallest schools in the state of MD, but when you still put out a product that wins 12 games and is defeating 2A and 3A schools, thats something to be proud of. We are losing some key components of this team, and some shoes will be very big to fill. However, we have a strong core of young talent that got alot of time this year and we will look for them to carry this team next year. Do I think we can improve on a 12 win season?? I certainly do, and will expect that to happen in 2011. If the players have the same goals that I do, and hopefully that is the case, then they want to strive to win a state title. The players need to do everything in their power to make that happen. Go to camps, play club ball and fall ball, be a part of the indoor team, and have a genuine love for the game. That is how we will reach our goal...hard work and determination. I think we have what it takes..."
